Sinopse
Death Wish is a 1974 action-crime-drama film based on the 1972 novel by Brian Garfield. The film was directed by Michael Winner and stars Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey, a man who becomes a vigilante after his wife is murdered and his daughter is sexually assaulted by muggers. The film was a major commercial success and generated a movie franchise lasting four sequels over a twenty-year period. The film was denounced by critics as advocating vigilantism and unlimited punishment to criminals.Death Wish II (also known as Death Wish 2 in more recent years) was a 1982 sequel to the 1974 film Death Wish. The movie starred Charles Bronson, was written by David Engelbach, and was directed by Michael Winner. The soundtrack, also titled Death Wish II, was composed by Jimmy Page. The film was made on a $2 million budget; it profited $16 million domestically and $45 million worldwide, though critics panned it.Death Wish II was released in the United States in February 1982. It was produced by exploitation giant Cannon Films, which had purchased rights to the Death Wish concept from Dino De Laurentiis. First planned for Cannon executive Menahem Golan to direct, Michael Winner eventually returned on Bronson´s insistence. The first Death Wish sequel makes a complete break from Death Wish and Death Sentence, Brian Garfield´s novel series, and redefines the Paul Kersey character. Unlike in the original film, in which he hunts down every criminal he encounters, Kersey only pursues his family´s attackers. He begins by renting an apartment in Los Angeles´ skid-row to use as a "headquarters" while he looks for his daughter´s killers. Then he prowls back streets, video arcades, and local hangouts for the criminals. His weapon of choice is a Beretta Model 84 .380 ACP.Death Wish 3 is a 1985 action thriller, and the second sequel to the 1974 film Death Wish. Written by Don Jacoby (under the pseudonym Michael Edmonds), and featuring Charles Bronson returning to the role of Paul Kersey, Death Wish 3 is the last in the series to be directed by Michael Winner and was shot in both New York and London to reduce production costs. It has developed a cult favorite status by many fans of the series, despite most professional critics favoring the original. Death Wish 3 was released in the United States in November 1985.The film pits Paul Kersey (Bronson) against feral New York street gangs, while receiving support from a local police lieutenant (played by Ed Lauter). The film focuses more on action sets in the vein of Rambo and Commando. Kersey is shown firing a Wildey .475 caliber handgun, a .38 caliber snubnose revolver, a .30 caliber Browning air cooled machine gun, and a L.A.W. (light anti-tank weapon) handheld rocket launcher.Widely considered an unintentional satire of the vigilante genre, critic Leonard Maltin panned the film, saying, "Same old stuff; Bronson´s ´ordinary guy´ character is no longer convincing, since his entire immediate family was wiped out by the end of Part 2.Death Wish 4: The Crackdown is a 1987 action thriller, and the third sequel to the 1974 film, Death Wish. It is the first film in this series to carry a subtitle, the first to be directed by someone other than Michael Winner, and the last to be released by Cannon Films. It was directed by J. Lee Thompson, best known in Hollywood for the 1961 film The Guns of Navarone and the 1962 thriller Cape Fear. The film had a substantially cheaper budget and limited release, first appearing at U.S. theaters in November 1987. The screenplay by Gail Morgan Hickman relocates Kersey to Los Angeles, where he initiates a one-man war against drug dealers.Death Wish V: The Face of Death is a 1994 action thriller, and the fifth and final sequel to the 1974 film Death Wish. Despite vowing that Death Wish 4 would be the final film in this series, Bronson returned to reprise the role of Paul Kersey one final time for this film, his final theatrical starring role in the movie industry. The film is produced by 21st Century Film Corporation, a company under Menahem Golan after Cannon Films´ bankruptcy. The film was shot in Toronto and helmed by Canadian director Allan Goldstein. Steve Craver was originally going direct the film until the producers planned to cut down on the budget.
